I always make twice the quantity of oaty crumble when i make an apple or rhubarb crumble and keep half in the fridge in a ziploc bag.

As long as the range oven is hot it takes all of 1min to pull frozen fruit from freezer, 2 tablespoons of sugar and throw the crumble on top.

A lovely pud for my hardworking husband. It couldn't be easier.

Would have been  delicious if i had checked that the apple i threw in the dish was indeed apple and NOT .......parsnip!!!

Sounds like a 2nd World War recipe... according to my mother parsnip was often used to bulk out or even replace all sorts of fruit. Added to this would be flavouring and imagination.

I did something similar the other day when the pie I served up with gravy, potatoes and veg turned out to be an apple pie.  Whoops!

crumbles are very fine things. You can do savoury ones - obviously no sugar in the crumble mix. Instead you can put a few sesame seeds. Delicious over a huge variety of veggie fillings (and meat of course) - leek and cheese is yummy

I make a savoury one using stuffing mix in the topping - delish

i allways have  a big bag of breadcrumbs in the freezer hubby likes his fish done in them with some parmasan cheese and herbs also a sprinke of tzatziki mix in there as well .
