Best Carrots for winter storage?
« on: January 02, 2011, 07:51 »
Hiya

What would you recommend for winter storage carrots?

I was thinking Autumn King but Mole's say suitable for fresh and slicing.

I would really appreciate any advice.

Thanks again,
Herbie

What I'm looking at says they have good storage ability:

Autumn King
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Lol, I think I got up to early today!

Yup, definitely going to chose Autumn King as my main crop.

Thanks DD

Wouldn't be without them.

I leave mine in as well. A few tops get nibbled, but there's plenty to go at.

I too vote Autumn King! Love the flavour too!
(If only all seed choices were so easy!! LOL)

I also really like Long 'Lisse de Meaux' that i grew last year- got the seeds from real seeds... its meant to have very long keeping qualities... but i ate all mine pretty fast!... they were lovely and sweet! I'd recommend them if you were looking to grow a second or different type. I'll be growing both this year!

I grew Autumn King and Early Nantes, and left them in the ground with fleece over them. They've survived the snow, and are still lovely and sweet when I harvest.

I tried storing the carrots in sand last year as I've seen recommended but they went dry and horrid.
