When can Chickens stay out
« on: December 01, 2010, 14:17 »
We have six chicken who will be eight weeks old tomorrow. At the moment we are bringing them in to an unheated conservatory everynight and putting them in a Guinea Pig cage which is getting a bit cramped now. They can roost in there and there is food and clean water for them.
We live in Kent and given the current weather conditions when will we be able to leave them out in a wooden coop all the time.

Hi,

I am new myself to keeping chickens but I have three chickens who have just turned eight weeks old last Sunday and they have been outside since I got them over four weeks ago. They appear to be coping fine outside in their coop. I have also recently started letting them have the run of the garden which they have been enjoying very much. They have bneen going back in their coop in the evening too with no issues though they havent been too keen coming out the last couple of days due to cold spell. I live in Welling

As long as you have a robust coop for them they should be fine. Some people put tarpaulins/old duvets/hay bales etc over the coop at night to give a bit of extra warmth and insulation.
