Raise your hackles ( I think they are feathers aren't they?)

the hackles are the long neck feathers on a cockerel - which when they square up to each other they fluff out to make them bigger. Dogs will also raise their hackles as a sign of aggression to other dogs (they are along the back of dogs), however Rhodesian ridge-backs have their hackles raised and with them it isn't a sign of aggression (we had a Rhodie cross and people always though he was being aggressive even when he was happy  ).
