Chicken sayings
« on: December 01, 2010, 02:09 »
Since I've become a "chicken fancier" I have started to notice a lot of common sayings in the English language that must have originated with chickens.

The obvious one is "pecking order" - we all know where that comes from!  And of course "hen-pecked".

And then there's "taking someone under your wing."

What other chicken-related sayings do we have?

"Running around like a headless chicken"  which will be me if I don't get my finger out soon with the Christmas prep as I go in hospital on the 14th December so will be pretty much out of action with regards to Christmas shopping thereafter.
"The chicken came first—God would look silly sitting on an egg."

Hubby and I went through this a few months ago after I got my girls and it's amazing how many chicken sayings there are.

Don't count your chickens before they are hatched
