« on: November 28, 2010, 08:22 »
The 4 girls are n quite a big coop at the moment but should I move them the smaller coop and run?  They seem alright in themselves but with temps down to -7 last night im just being careful!

Views please ;)

Hi Min200,
Not sure if it's necessary but we do change the coop size in autumn to make it a little more cozy for them in winter, we also have insulation in the roof of the winter coop. I must tell you though, that I am a relative novice and I'm sure more experienced hen keepers will be along to give their thoughts.
3 dogs now, 2 passed RIP Poppy and Paige, one wonderful husband and a new adventure on this wonderful island

mine stay in their same coops and still free range all year round. Even the 14 who sleep in the trees are still sleeping out in the open. One of them had a slight hint of frozen dew on his feathers this morning but will he go inside? No!!   ::)
Don't give them a smaller run as this can lead to problems such as feather pecking.
Staffies are softer than you think.

I was just a bit worried as the base of a couple of their combs look frost bitten.  I'll leave them be for a couple more days for now and see how they get on.
