When to plant strawberrys?

Hi all.

I have 50 strawberry plants ready to plant. The bed is ready and i have weed suppressant fabric to plant them all through. Just wondering should i plant them this week or shall i leave it until next year? (If next year any tips on keeping them alive till then!?)

Planted ours at this time last year and had a good crop. Also left some in 31/2in Yogurt Pots outside all winter then planted them into grow bags in early spring and moved them into the green house. These started to crop a good 4 weeks early. Just moved them outside in summer. I think strawberries need a cold spell to produces a could crop the following year.

At this time of year I'd just be putting down some bone meal to encourage root growth. If the soil has had good manure in it, then just a little general purpose fertiliser (whichever one you normally use round the place will do) in spring.
