What Is Your Favorite Vegetable??
« on: November 13, 2010, 22:43 »
Hello all.... just a quick question about your favourite vegetable.......

Do you find it easy to grow, do you have any problems growing it?, I find that I can just plant mine and leave them to get on with it and they turn out great everytime....  :) :)
My favourite has to be the 'Cauliflower'.......... there are so many things that it can be used for, cauliflower cheese of course, it can be used in curries, in soups, in gratin, in quiche, roasted, in pies, etc, etc... so tell me...... what's yours and why?

It has to be pumkin/squash............love 'em ;)

They can be a beggar to get to set, you may even have to hand pollinate, you never know if it will stay warm long enough for them to ripen, but they are worth it.

You can do all the same things as you can with cauliflower....stuff them with cheese or meat & rice and they  " can be used in curries, in soups, in gratin, in quiche, roasted, in pies" and risotto and sweet dishes like flans and purees and you can even make jam/chutney with them:D

Reason enough I think

Oh, it's got to be a firm tangy tomato, still warm from the sun. (Yes, I know it's a fruit, but . . .)
It's the only veg that I'll keep eating till there's none left.   :D

Second choice has to be either raw fresh peas or taters in their jackets.

Easy to grow ?   Yes and no:  I still haven't found the perrrrrfect tomato,
but I'm trying.

Butternut squash because you seem to wait for ages but the soups and stews are gorgeous. Leeks as a close second because even if they look like chives when they go in they put on weight when you are not looking and become thick stems from nowhere!

Been thinking about this for a couple of hours, but have decided it depends what is in season, and especially what is available on my tiny plot. At the moment thet is new potatoes, kale and leeks, so my favourite, what I can eat a plate of with nothing else....new potatoes.

Celeriac but I am yet to grow it well. Mine are the size of tennis balls and yesterday at the grocer's stall I saw ones the size of footballs for £1.20  :(
If you can't be an excellent example be a terrible warning...

I think it must be carrots for me, they are eaten almost every day in our house. I really enoyed pulling them out of the ground and finding a rainbow of colours ( I knew I'd planted funky carrots but didn't think the results would be so good).
Also really love french beans and like to grow lot's of types so we get rainbow dinners, the kids love picking them too.

Too many reasons for having too many "favourites" to be able to choose just one!  :)
