Brocoli
« on: November 08, 2010, 22:02 »
Has anyone had any luck with their brocoli in Newcastle upon Tyne area.  Mine is high and healthy looking but I have no sign of any florets!  Planted from small plants from garden centre about June.

It depends what sort it is.  If it's purple sprouting brocolli, which I suspect it is, it will start producing Feb/March next year depending on what variety it is.

Yes, if you're a pedant. It all starts with a missing 'c' or an extra 'l', and before we know where we are there's the global acceptance of the grocer's apostrophe by the entire English-speaking world. Shock! Horror!

Banana's anyone?

SS

(of course pedants make just as many howlers as non-pedants, as I'm sure correspondence passim will reveal)

Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

We sowed seed in situ in late may and got a lovely crop of large heads in late summer, since then they have been producing lots of small but delicious florets...last weekend we picked half a carrier bag full, and they are still growing!........Suspect ours are officially calibraise rather than broccoli though
