sow tonight?
« on: July 26, 2006, 14:03 »
What can i sow tonight?  I have recently had a baby and have not had the opportunity to sow anything this year.  Now shes in a routine i think i should be able to get out there again.  I have various seeds left over from last year and a few tomato volunteers but if you have any ideas of what i could sow so late in the season that would be cool

cheers :)

Most of the salad veg are still sowable.  Radish, Lettuce, chicory, Salad Onions etc... There is still time for winter cabbage and perhaps some kale.  Carrots should be okay until early August.  You should look out for japanese onion sets as they can be planted next month to harvest in May/June next year.  And finally, under cover why not try some spuds for Christmas
Enjoying the traditional ways and values of life.

I wouldn't bother with courgettes now.  If you like them I would make it known to other plot holders, because most people have a glut at present and would be more than willing to give you a supply.

Just takena look at my growers calendar and noticed that you could add to your list of possible sowings, Beetroot, French Beans and possibly even peas if you select the right variety (Kelvedon Wonder or Early Onwards are the two varieties I grow).

Good luck and keep us posted with your successes.

Did I forget the Spring Cabbage!  So sorry - great idea and even if you don't like them they are usually great as swaps for something you do - Parsnips, carrots etc...
