Cheese and Onion Flapjack
« on: September 23, 2010, 07:07 »
Not something that everyone will like but it is nice and filling and makes such a change from sweet flapjack.

Cheese and Onion Flapjack
2 eggs beaten
50grm butter
150grm of strong grated cheese (I reduced this last time to 100grm)
I large diced red onion
140grm porridge oats (upped this to 190 when I reduced the cheese)

Melt the butter
Stir in the Porridge oats
Add the rest of the ingredients and press into an 8 inch tin

Bake for 30 - 40 minutes at 180 should be lightly browned on the top.

You can also add tomatoes and herbs to this recipe, last time I added some finely chopped chillies.

That sounds really nice too Kev, it sounds like a good lunchtime alternative to sandwiches, rolls or a salad box.

Thanks for sharing it. :)

Oh sorry - but that sounds SO WRONG.

That said, my lot love flapjacks and cheese so I may give it a go. :D

Sounds good, is that what you've tried catllar? :)

Very tasty, in a way quite reminiscent of eating quiche rather than flapjacks. I recommend them, thanks for sharing the recipe Kevin. :)

Right there's a batch in the oven as I type! This being France, the country of cheese, there is nothing like Cheddar so I've replaced with what I have which is a mix of gruyere and 18 month comte. The smell from the kitchen is wonderful!

Would they make a good breakfast bar, if I cut them into fingers and wrapped in greaseproof when cooled?

OH leaves so early he cant face food, but is starving by 10am and the chocolate machine looks so tempting...  so healthy alternatives are always good and he loves cheese and onion.

I reckon they'd be pretty tasty by 10 in the morning madcat, after an early start. You can only give it a go..... and adapt the recipe to taste perhaps..
