Another garlic question as its getting near to planting time.

Is it okay to plant and grow garlic through weed fabric (cutting the holes first, then planting through them?)

cheers

I don't see why not, except that you'll be making slug heaven for the winter

Ah yes, never thought of that.

I've just seen a very good dvd set called The Allotment I think, and in it the
guy uses small Tupperware boxes with a small hole cut in the side and then
puts in slug pellets. A way to do it if you dont want slug pellets in your soil.

Anyone know where I can get a lot of small Tupperware boxes on the cheap? :)

Tks for the reply.

Yes, it works very well for garlic, onions, shallots and leeks with virtually no weeding for the 9 months they will be in the ground. No problems from slugs.

Thanks realfood, I'll give it a go this year.

Out of interest, can you use this method with all vegetables?

Spudman - the 99p shop and Poundland both sell different sizes of 'Tupperware' boxes

Spudman, You can use it on many vegetables, especially on those that are going to be in the ground for many months, such as overwintering brassicas.
