I can recommend these potato varieties!
« on: August 24, 2010, 17:01 »
After trying various pot varieties, and improving the soil each year in my deep beds, this year I grew Charlotte, Vivaldi and Edgecote Purple. Had a very dry spell early on and, due to illness, earthed them up only once, but success! I can really recommend them all, particularly the Edgecotes - healthy dark green foliage, they tasted lovely and the texture was really creamy. The skins are purple and white but goes white on cooking.  :tongue2:
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

Charlottes worked out well for me this year.  Tried Pink Fir Apple last year but all got wiped out by blight so never got to taste any.  Have enjoyed Arran Pilot in the past.

That is one problem with Pink Fir Apple, they seem to always get blight first and then you have to cut the tops of all the other potatoes on the plot as they will soon be infected.

I've had the same problem as Salmo. Whilst they are a nice tasting spud, they are a lot of bother to clean, and you have to be extremely careful in harvesting them so as not to damage them. Not bothering with them now since a couple of years ago when they were the only ones to get blight.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?
