Does anyone have the Patio Fruit trees, if yes are they any good? What size crops do they produce? What are the better types?

Hi Bluelou
I have a Patio Apple Tree; when I got it back in early summer there was a lot of blossum on it which quickly turned to a lot of tiny apples but then things went down hill, one by one they started to drop and I was left with about eight, the leaves started to get some sort of rust and died, I still have the eight apples which are now the size of small tomatoes but I am not holding out much hope for anything edible. As I paid £35 for the tree I am somewhat disapponited with the results this year so am hoping things will be better next year. Prehaps I am not the best person to advise on this subject there must be loads out there that have giving a plentiful bounty  :(

I have several trees -- apples, pears and a sweet cherry. Bought them from Ken Muir (minarettes) and worth the money.

They do need a lot of water, even though they are in very large pots  :)

I got an apple tree for Valentines day, which flowered well and has produced three apples. I also have a cherry in a pot which came from Tesco as a sorry twig, so no fruit this year. It's grown well though. As Sunshineband said, they need loads of water.

What you going to do with your three apples?? They look good. Is that the first year?

Yep, first year. One fell off while I was admiring it, but tried a tiny sliver and it's sour as heck so I'll make some apple sauce with it. Glad I took a pic of my first one though, sad innit?

I've had a Dwarf Pear Terrace Pearl for about four years now. I have planted it in the ground at the edge of my patio and sort of espalier'd it (ie without a great deal of skill!) It's about three and a half foot tall now.

Year one we had about three pears, year two I don't recall, last year about eight or nine and this year it is laden.

I guess if it was in a pot i'd be watering it all the time but as it is my front garden has a water butt and porous hose based irrigation system and this year I only had to water about three times in the dry spell.
