having read the other cucumber thread, I need more info...have one cucumber plant, have had two cucumbers off it, now it is very pale yellow(the leaves) and no more fruit seem to be appearing, I water regularly, it is in a polytunnel, can it be saved?

Are you feeding it ?

If not treat like tom's and also give it epsom salts or seaweed extract.

Don't over water, I leave mine until the soil is just damp.

when you water it try not to get water on the stem or leaves I've found from personal experience they seem to like to get rot of one form or another.

I've had a similar thing with mine this year - two fruits off each of 2 plants, one off a third then nothing - stopped in their tracks.  I like to think it's partly to do with the weather, but probably mostly down to my lack of soil preparation before transplanting them...which was nil!

Anyhow, this weekend was the perfect weekend for gardening under cover, so to try and rectify the position I have:-
- given them a good soak with the hose at the base of the plant whilst watering the toms in at the same time (my watering regime tends to be a bit sporadic)
- given them a liquid feed with the mixture in my drowning weed butt
- sprinkled some seaweed meal on the soil at the base of the plants
- cut some comfrey and laid this on the soil
- mulched it all with a nice thick layer of compost (which did involve a little bit of getting wet, transporting it from the bin to the greenhouse)
I will try and remember to report back if this perks them up or not.

Thanks for that, I will try to keep the watering to ground level!
I am feeding it at the same time as the toms, Epsom Salts eh? could that explain the effects eating cucumbers has on my digestion!
The colour would suggest I am over watering, I didn't think cucs could have too much water?
I have to say it does seem really weird watering inside the polytunnel when all around is drenched outside.
Still, harvested my first runner beans, which were delicious...such excitement.

While on the subject, is it too late to plant cucumbers from seed now?  I've got some catching up to do - melons also.

may be worth trying cucumbers for a late summer crop under cover which may or may not work, but leave the melons until next year - they need a very long growing season and hopefully a long hot sunny summer in order to produce anything melon like - you can start them off as early as february inside, so you don't have too long to wait!
