Are they allowed to live on the allotment?

Many people keep chickens on their allotments.

It would be inconvenient for me to visit my plot twice a day so I keep mine in my garden.

mine live in my garden and down the bridleway and in the farmers fields sadly though they are also laying in these places and I am missing my eggs .
I think as far as keeping them on allotments it depends on if they are council or privately owned and also if there are any by-laws. Plus like Aunt Sally said you have to be able to guarantee that you can get down there at least twice a day - maybe more in winter to make sure their drinkers haven't frozen up.
Staffies are softer than you think.

In general you can keep hens on council allotments even if the council says not but they have to be kept properly.

we're not allowed chickens on the allotment so they're in the garden, easier to look after that way anyway  :)

That's what a lot of people think Sue - Councils try to blind you with bye laws but they are not worth the paper they are printed on.

Hens and Rabbits are allowed on allotments as of right - Section 12 of the Allotments Act 1950.

wow - didn't know that, they were quite insistent when we took on the plot, no animals..  i would still rather have them at home though, much more convenient, i often pop down the end of the garden first thing in my nightie to let them out  not a sight for sharing

my three were meant to have a small part of our meadow (they started off in a run) as we grew to love them (took about two days) they came out of the run and I now have no meadow! We then needed electric fencing all around so I could stop worrying about them.  I would say very expensive eggs but they haven't laid one yet!
3 dogs, 8 chickens, 4 rabbits 2 guinea pigs, 10 quail, 2 fish and a demanding daughter who has gone to uni and left me with 29 animals to care for!!=)
