Ok mystery update!!

1) I cooked some of the "courgette" slices last night and they tasted very good, a lot like courgettes I thought..

2) I double checked with the supplier of the seedlings (a guy at work) and when I asked him about the possibility that he gave me pumpkin seeds he did confess that there might have been a bit of a mix up..

So as a result i'm guessing they are pumpkins after all. However the baby ones that look like round courgettes still seem perfectly cookable and edible! So my plan was to harvest most of them while small, then try and get a few big ones growing in time for Haloween? Not what I had planned, but more fun in the long run!
