I am growing broad beans for the first time this year.  I have a simple question when do I harvest?

Rather like knowing when to pick peas is that one. If the pods feel full, try one and see what's in it?

I think as above my neighbours pods are about 6" long and busting mine are about 4" but also bursting so I picked them today and eat some straight from the pod delicious so sweet!! didn't know they would taste so good!!

If you can see and feel them in the pod, wait a bit longer. As Christine said, try one - it's surprising how small they are to what you think they would be. Depends on how small / big you like them too.

If you have plenty start eating some once they are a little bigger than peas. Some people like to leave them until they have a bitter leathery skin. In most varieties the skins go from dull to shiny as they fill.
