Lightly boiled and cooled in mixed into a salad.

Or in a bean risotto!

Or just boiled with a knob of butter

And have had them in a spanish tortilla- very nice! :)

Very often quite lost- would be more lost if I could work out where I was!- But always find my way home.....

When small they are nice, pods and all.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

When tender, just steamed with butter.

When older, I blanch and skin before using in salads, risotto, mixed buttered veg, to give colour to boiled rice and fritata/tortilla.

The farmers leave them until the pods are as big as possible so the outer skin of the bean is chewy and disgusting. If you pick them small you get delcious tender beans, just steam and serve YUM

I must admit to having great delight in ploughing in over 10 acres of broad beans as they get used for green mulching/fertiliser. That was the best job ever, lololol best thing you can do with them in my opinion, lolololol (exit stage left................hastily!)

I have not tried this yet but it is suposed to be nice.
Boil and mash (or blend)broad beans
add to equal amount of mash potato ,
add one garlic clove
a tablespoon of olive oil
some salt and pepper and blend the whole lot together.
Serve as you would mash potato

g,day from d/under broad beans yummie, the way the wife and cook them is,we take beans out pod each bean cut the top of were it goes black when beans get old,by cutting the top of it allows juices to go inside of bean, better taste.in pan put your broad beans 3 table spoons brown vinegar,3 cloves dice garlic, table spoon olive oil, table spoon chopped parsley, pinch salt,i like them better when they are cold,enjoy.seeya.
g,day from d/under I love my vegie patch,

I love them when they're not much bigger than the size of my fingernails either steamed or thrown in a pan with some leek thinnings, garlic and some peas.  Yum.  If I don't get round to picking them early enough then I always squeeze them out of their inner tough shells.

Tried a new recipe using broad beans today.  Boiled some diced turnips - after about 15 mins added broad beans and boiled for a further 10 (ish) mins.  Drained and added some parsley butter.  Yummy.
