Hi gang

I had 6 hubbard eggs from Poulet Anglais. Mammy hen ate one after a few days, I guess it had got broken. Of the remaining five I have one live chick, one chick dead while breaking out, and three unfertilised eggs. Is 50% infertile usual or have I just been unlucky? Would I be better putting a dozen under her next year, she is a large fowl.

Did you pick the eggs up or were they posted?

Posting is very hard on the eggs and can lead to all kind of problems which stops the embryo from developing properly.

I do wish people wouldn't name breeders or companies when they have problems unless its important that they do.

I have dealt with Poulet Anglais for 3 years now and am very pleased with him and his birds!

The eggs we got from him last year, I think we had a 65% fertility rate, but he was going through a bad time with his breeding flock at the time. Usually though it is 75% and upwards!

It could have been the post though, shaking the eggs about.  We collect our eggs and chicks from him.
