I was wondering if its possible to tell if an egg is fertile by cracking it open when its fresh? I have done this and seen a small white spot on on the yolk of the egg is this a way of telling its fertile?

Thanks for that just that i want to check some eggs as ive introduced a new cockerel to my hens and make sure they are fertile.
I usually just candle eggs 5-7 days from incubation when hatching them myself.  I have some brilliant Rhode Island Reds and ive been asked to sell some hatching eggs while at the auction. I just want to make sure that they are good fertile eggs as i would be selling them.

As i have been asked to sell some hatching eggs i want to do what i can and get the advice .
I was thinking of getting some eggs from all hens , opening them and seeing inside but i want to be sure i can do it this way.

I really don't think you can, but you can tell after just a few days of incubation.

you'll need to actually hatch some, to find the fertility and hatchability rates.

last lot i had put in inccy, 110% fertile, 0% hatch rate.

will also let you see if theres any gene defects.
