egg fertility question
« on: June 03, 2011, 11:22 »
Hi - at the risk of sounding really stupid I have a question about egg fertility...

Having dispatched my splash Jersey Giant cockerel on Wednesday, I was wondering if the eggs laid by his other half on Thursday & Friday are likely to be fertile? His lordship was treading her frequently until his demise

I've been offered the use of an incubator and would love the opportunity to rear offspring from this lovely looking pair.

Thanks.

yes they can still be fertile for over a week after he last did his stuff - I would say go for it afterall what have you got to lose and you could end up with a lovely reminder of your lovely boy  :D
Fingers crossed for you xx

Now who was it on here the other day that lost their beloved Maran?  Took her eggs out of the fridge which were 7 and 10 days old, warmed them to room temperature then put them in an incy or under a broody, and they hatched?

Ohh can't remember who it was now!

It was Spana!!!

That was timely, thanks GA - I thought the eggs might have got too cold waiting for the incy which arrives later this morning! I read the post, what a lovely story.

Now I wish one of my girls would go broody - maybe Patches, the eggs' mum...
