chickens that won't go to bed...
« on: June 08, 2010, 21:57 »
Hi all
Would like some advice my 2 lovely bluebells will not go to bed, even though we have shown them where to go they perfer to be up a large camilla bush. They will sit there all night and then come out in the morning. They are rather content up there. Has anyone else that have chooks that do this.

Thanks
T

i had a similar problem, just pick the up and put them in the coop. they should get used to where they are supposed to sleep.
Unfortunatley one of my girls insists on going to roost in the shed most nights

also, check you haven't got a bugs/red mite in the coop. Birds tend not to want to sleep in an infested coop

I have a bantam that in summer lives in an old apple tree except for when she is broody (in winter she moves herself into the laurels). Her chicks have all copied her and have moved into an ash tree (this is higher than my house and all my attempts to knock them out have failed they just go higher  >:(). It is not something that I would recommend and would urge you to keep trying to get her inside the coup at night. Bluebelles do end up as quite a big bird (my bluebell is now 3) so next year yours may not be able to fly into the trrs.
Staffies are softer than you think.
