« on: June 08, 2010, 21:32 »
Hello. I gotta load of tomato plants growing in the greenhouse. they are about 12" tall. I have been pulling the side shoots of them all (for reasons i cant really remember!!)

They are not the bush variety, so am i doing it right. Or should i let them get on with it!!?

Cheers! :D
Start at the beginning, and finish at the end!!

And even pop the side shoots in to water for a week or so to form roots and pot them up giving even more tomato plants.
Sorry ::) That's my weakness this year since finding out you can do this.
My current count is 18 plants of 5 varieties and still got more shoots rooting from other plot holders varieties.
I think I may have gone tomato crazy this year

I don't bother with the water.

Put 12 side shoots of Shirely straight into pots a week ago, already rooted.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Another tomato addict eh DD :)
I'll try your way next year and save the bother of water.
For this year i've been banned by the better half from rooting any more tomatoes, or growing anything else from seed untill the December onions.
It is nice to have the window ledges back though

I did this last year.  Bought some cheap plastic cups, put a couple of holes in the bottom and filled with soil.  Then planted the side shoots I pinched out.  There was a lady looking for plants on freecycle to sell on a charity stall and I gave them all to her.  She was very happy with this.

I've cut down from 100 plants last year to about 60.
