I don't grow it myself, Welly, but I did live close to a Chinese market garden farm where I saw them planted out in fairly rich soil, constantly weeded and well watered. If I'm not mistaken, it's part of the cabbage family or a relation, so if you treat it reasonably similiar, you should do well. I suspect in the UK you'll have to net them well against pigeons.

Mine have been amazing so far and need the conditions Trillium described.  Plus they tasted a whole lot better than supermarket ones.

We grow them in pots and even over-wintered some. Some varieties do bolt easily, so we always just grow half a dozen at a time.
You can eat them raw, but we always steam ours.
