Feeding Cucumbers
« on: June 18, 2007, 15:00 »
Hi all
This is my first attempt at growing cucumbers in my greenhouse.  They are fruiting nicely (is it a fruit or a veg  :? ) and are about an inch or so long.  My question is at what point, and how often do I feed them?

Hi DJB,

I’ve been feeding mine same time as my Toms, one a week with tomatorite. This is my first time and I’m probably wrong but they seem to be doing fine.

I do the same. If you Google cucumbers & Tomorite - you'll see that so do a lot of others!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

It's my first time growing too.

However, I was told not to use tomorite as this encourages too much growth too quickly, and to use Blood or blood, fish and bone once a week. I'm doing this and getting good results (although i have nothing to compare them to!!!) The only bonus to this is that it is organic.

I feed my toms the same way, Neil. I stay pretty organic when it comes to 'fertilizing'. My toms aren't record weight but they more than make up for it in taste, which is why we're organic.  Like the old saying goes, size isn't everything.  8)
