Fantastic lettuce
« on: June 08, 2010, 09:07 »
I'm not normally a lettuce fan but...i've grown a variety called Australian Yellow Leaf from Real Seeds.

They grow to a huge size and the taste is fantastic.

Anyone else growing these?

Oh..and if anyone from Real Seeds is reading..name and address can be supplied..:)

Top tip for camping....don't go.

I have checked out the Real Seed website and unfortunately it is a minumum £8 per order .  Bit of a contrast to D T Brown where I just ordered some coriander seed yesterday for less than a £1 with free p&p.  What a shame :(

It seems to be easily available in the US and presumably Australia.  If any of the major seed people start stocking it, I would love to try it.

Lettuces in general seem to be doing really well this yr, on our site anyway.
I'm very important. I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany.

Mine have grown a treat!  :D
I've got a big box raised up off the ground away from the giant slug - the one that ate all my lettuces last year
Am growing Little Gem, Lollo Rosso, mixed leaves and rocket - all delicious...!

I got from Real Seeds three types of lettuce: Flame, Cardinale and Emeral Oak. They were a tad slower to germinate than the mixed lettuce from a main brand, but they are doing wonderfully now, and they taste very nice. I'm growing part as cut and come again, and part to maturity, and both are great. They didn't bolt in the heatwaves either, I was quite worried... Flame and Cardinale also look quite striking.
