Yay..........I,ve 2 chicks successfully hatched out of the 3 Clara was sat on...........so sweet!
My question is how soon do broodies start laying again as I found an egg underneath her but not sure if one of the other hens flew over the run, sneakily laid and came out again?

I remember reading on here that as long as a broody sits for that will be the same as the length of time until she lays.  It didn't quite work for my broody though, she was broody about 5 weeks and laid after about 2.

If your hen is still brooding her chicks she won't start to lay until shes's stopped looking after them.

Thanks for your replies. Have now put netting over run as I suspect Polly was popping over to lay beside her best mate. At least chicks are safe now from flying predators. So excited managed to put pic of chicks on my profile too. Does this excitement at new chicks, first eggs etc ever wear off or is it just 'cos we're "hooked on chooks"? lol
