Tomato Advice
« on: June 03, 2010, 21:41 »
I've grown a couple of tomato plants and I thought they were doing really well.  They are both about 45cm tall, may be a bit higher but have no flowers at all.  I'm now a bit worried since I've just seen that some people are already picking their tomatoes!! I've been pinching out shoots and have given them plenty of water.  Where am I going wrong?

What variety are they?  There are so many variables, you may be doing nothing wrong other than just being a little impatient.   :D Alternatively you may be pinching out flower trusses thinking they're side shoots..

I only planted my tomatos at the weekend.. Only a couple show signs of a flower forming so far..  I wouldnt worry about others having tomatos already.. Must have been using greenhouses!

As said don't panic, I always start mine a little later than most on our site and mine are just starting to flower.

They are both about 45cm tall, may be a bit higher but have no flowers at all.

If they are the indeterminate sort that grow up a single stem, rather than a bush, then mine tend to do about 4 pairs of leaves before they produce their first flower truss.

So I would say that 45CM is too short for the first flowers ...
