When I go to put the hens away for the night one of my ´big´hens sits down next to me puts out her wings and lets me pick her up and stroke her, she does not put up a fight just arches her neck and looks about.   The others look at her as if she is mad

seriously she is asuming the position she would if a cockbird is going to cover her.
tell her your not that way inclined but remember let her down gently as chickens have feelings to lol.

I find it's very convenient for them to behave this way.  It makes them easy to pick up for a weekly general health check  :!:

I gave her a good look over last night and no sign of creatures lurking! I had not thought of doing that while I was holding her
I did tell her I was not the sort of person she was looking for though, but appreciated her thoughts towards me!
Re the soft egg problem,  am I stupid or what.... snails... millions of them all about me, so today I am going to go on a snail pickup and ´kill two birds´ take out the snails, so save plants, and help my chickens with their calcium problem!
