Bubbly sounding chicken
« on: May 25, 2010, 17:04 »
Help!

Alix is about 2years old and she is sneezing and sounds very bubbly on her chest. Does she have a cold? She is also extending her neck and keeping her beak open as she breathes. She has been very un interested all day and we have now put her in the sleeping box with water.

Any other advice very welcome.

Hello Draindragon,
a visit to the vet ASAP - very similar to my chook who had an infection and needed antibiotics.

let the vet know how many chickens you have as they will all need treating.
Staffies are softer than you think.

Alix was sneezing yesterday but fine in herself. Today she has gone down hill from lunch time. We are at the vets at 7.15pm.

The other 4 birds are fine.

good luck at the vets - even though the others appear to be ok get enough meds to treat them as they could be incubating the infection. Let us know how you get on  :)

Yippee..... Helpful vet.

Alex has a low level infection. So injection done for tonight and then tablets for the next  5 days.

Alex thanked the vet with a nice little present on the table and the floor. She is home and is just enjoying a long drink before bed. She was a star.

Thanks everybody.. It great to be able to ask the questions.

so pleased it was nothing too serious. At least chicken pooh is a lot easier to clean up than my mastiffs

so glad she's ok

sounds like the vet needs my labrador- she loves chicken poo! I have to watch her like a hawk as she will creep into the coop at any opportunity- providing hens are out. Another Q for my long suffering vet!

Alix was ready to go this morning and out of the door so fast. She has downed her breakfast and is now working on an egg.

The vet also gave me some liquid calcuim for the one with an egg problem. She has just had her first dose.

Thanks
Sara
Alix and Wellie :D :D :D
