How much straw for strawberries?
« on: May 21, 2010, 14:59 »
I'm going to collect some bales of straw for my strawbs tomorrow - how many plants will a standard bale do for? Plants at 18" spacings. I'm guessing that one bale will do for 12-15 plants or approx 3sqm. Is this about right?

One bale would do but it will depend on how thick you want the mulch. I've used 1-1/2 bales for that area for a good thick weed suppressant mulch.

Aidy has been known to mention the all-day-every-day sunshine in Blackpool; think he might have been out in it a bit too much lately!  8)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

Jay, solution30 is highly addictive, I am sure our patients only come in to have a sniff. Pop down to your local optician and ask if they use it, if so ask them spray a bit, you will see.

...whereas Essiclean has had all of the nasty stuff taken out of it.
...quiet day today, and I leave at 1.30pm, so will straw up my strawbs in the sunshine, then bbq some trout, and stir-fry some broadbean tops, and pick some salads and carrot thinnings, and the last of the sweet-pickled beetroot, and the first on the first earlies, and enjoy something chilled and sparkling.
