So is the straw just to keep them clean or does it serve another purpose. I have just planted 2 strawberry plants out in the back garden that i found up the lottie. they seem to have survived.

uyes mate it keeps em off the ground and also acts as a mulch keeping the soil from being dried out as much

and also helps as a weed suppressant and mulch. The fruit will sit on top of the straw and stay clean and less likely to rot from contact with the soil.
