Black patches on broad beans
« on: May 18, 2010, 20:32 »
I sowed some broad beans in the mini growhouse a couple of weeks ago. When I got home from work today I noticed dry black patches on the leaves. Is it likely to be sun scorch? Should I just harden off and plant out? (they are only about 2 inches tall) I've never grown broad beans before.

broad beans are very hardy and dont need to be protected from the cold, i dont know what the black spots are but i would move them out of the plastic greenhouse

i thought of chocolate spot but have only ever seen it on mature plants, however having just looked at the rhs article it says it is caused by humid conditions which takes us back to the plastic grren house so might be best to get them outside

might just be mold from being in a damp warm greenhouse. Get 'em out into the fresh air!  :)
There's more comfrey here than you can shake a stick at!

thanks all I will move them outside. I only put them in there because the mice eat all biggish seeds that I put in the ground.

just looked at that article and I don't think it is that, looks more like scorch than described there, but I'll get them outside
