I am in the process of making a raised bed.  I am doing something called lasagnia style!?  ie I am putting cardboard down first over weeds and then it suggests layering compost and soil.  I have very little compost because I have recently moved house.  I am planning a trip to B&Q tomorrow to buy some big bags of compost, and noticed they also have soil improver and well rotted manure.  My question is can I use manure and then plant beetroot seeds and cabbages and green beans straight into this?  Thanks for all your help and answering my questions.  I am very new to all this and it really helps.

I'd be careful with the cabbages as the soil needs to be really firm, but the others don't - so just ensure that they are kept a bit separate.

I have a hunch that it's not the right time to be adding manure to the cabbage part of the bed, but couldn't say whether that's based on anything justifiable so will have to rely on others for that aspect.

As for the beans, they will love manure.

Don't know about beetroot.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Root veg such as beetroot hate manure.  Any manure you add now will have to be well rotted.
Cheese makes everything better.

Thanks for your replies.  I will check it is well rotted and maybe use in half the bed?  Also hoping my courgette seeds grow, so perhaps I will put the manure in half the bed with them and my beans, and leave it out of the other half (where I put the beetroot and cabbage).  I have made the bed 9 feet long by 3 feet as I have a cloche of enviro mesh ( I hope that is the right term?!) which is long and wanted to use it.   Is that a mad thing to do?
