Hen with bare patches, not healing
« on: May 01, 2010, 18:07 »
One of my hens has two raised bare patches on her back, when I got her last October I presumed it was damage from a cockerel and would heal in time. Six months on it's still the same, in every other respect she is healthy and happy, but she looks such a mess bless her! Any suggestions?

are the other chickens pecking the bald spots, because chickens tend to peck at things that stand out, this may be slowing up healing. maybe some purple spray on her bald spots

and it may not grow back properly until she moults again, but keep her covered with something like the purple spray already mentioned or Ukadex or tea tree oil in vaseline

I don't think the other hens are pecking her as she is very much the leader and I've never seen them do that, but thank you for your suggestions, I will try it.
