Warren hybrids I've had a couple first year of lay before they went on work to rule and now only give me one egg a day from 3 birds,

I got 3 Hisex Rangers had them since begining of march got em aged 19 weeks, must of had at the very least 6 double yolkers already. I'd never thought they were particularly rare, I'm sure one day there was 2 double yolkers.

there was a 'top devon poultry vet' on Radio Four last week (their fan fare - not mine) - he said double yolkers came mostly from young birds who had just started to lay and whose periodic releases hadnt sorted itself out yet, interesting to see you got yours from an old bird - perhaps it happens again in the menopause!

I got a massive egg- double yolker-last week   from one of my hens (been laying now for about 6 weeks) it must have made the hens eyes water!   Since then I´ve had no big eggs just the normal size.

One of my black rocks laid an enormous egg a couple of weeks ago, after missing one days alying. This egg was double the size of all the others and when cracked did have a double yolk. Brings tear to my eyes just thinking about the pain in passing this one out!! :)  :)

a neighbour gives me the odd dozen or so eggs, and they have sometimes had double yolks.......I thought they were a bit dodgy and gave one of them to the dog  ....so they are normal then?

our first egg (last week) was a double yolker - perhaps the radio vet was right.

I don't keep chicken yet, but I love double yolkers, as I'd love twins. They're 100% fine, I eat them with relish!
