I have some large tomato seedlings that I started off in February. They are in my unheated greenhouse at the moment inside a mini plastic greenhouse (those 4 tier ones with the zip up plastic cover) so they are protected from low night temps. I would like to move them into their final planting position in their grow bags do you think this will be okay.

How big are they ?

You should transplant them to their final growing position when the flowers of the first truss are beginning to open.

They are about 8 inches tall now with little flower clusters about to form.

Will the grow bags be in the greenhouse.  If so I'd say its OK.  You could put some fleece around them for a bit of extra protection.

If they are large enough to bury nice and deep they will be fine.  The purpose of doing this to to increase the root system.  A root will grow where it touches soil, so the more stem buried, the more roots.

If you can get hold of the big drinking water bottles and hack one end off, you can use these to cover the whole plant at night.

I put a couple of my shirleys in the flower buckets inside their peat pots in an unheated greenhouse. I refuse to coddle toms...they will be fine in the greenhouse until the last frost has gone and the only thing to really fear is blight later, and frankly then it is too late to worry.

If i mollycoddled every fruit and veg going I would have two perfect specimens and no food

I sowed mine on 15 February and potted on into 3.5" pots on 8 March.  They are looking nice and healthy and I have pinched out the sideshoots a couple of times.  No sign of flowers yet though.  The roots are heading for the capillary matting now so I am going to pot them on into larger pots and  'earth them up' so that they grow stronger roots up the stems, before putting them in growing bags.   I am doing the same with the peppers (sweet and chili) - I seem to remember in a previous GW programme Monty Don(?) saying it's a good to idea to pot them two or three times before leaving them to get on with producing fruit.

Blimey! Sowed mine on 14th Feb, and pricked out to 3" pots on 06th March, and am planning to pot on today. I reckon mine are tiny compared to you lot's :(
