No rasp buds yet?
« on: April 13, 2010, 22:43 »
Planted some Glen Ample summer fruiting rasp canes over winter.  Despite recent warmer weather, still absolutely no sign of buds forming on the 2 feet high canes, no new growth whatsoever.  Should I be worried?

I didnt dig over the bed (previously grass over clay / rock) too deeply, but dug in a lot of well rotted manure, and mulched over the whole bed with manure.

My summer fruiting ones have only just started to open their leaf buds and I'm down in the balmy south.

I suspect if you planted them over the winter they'll be busy putting down a few roots before they start to bud. I planted some new ones in early March and they're still just sticks. The older ones are well away now and coming into leaf.
