We have had our POL hens for five days now. We were thrilled this morning to find our first two eggs - we're really pleased as the breeder said we could expect to have to wait up to a month - they must have settled well.

My question is....are the eggs ok to eat straight away once the hen produces them? They look perfectly formed.

Perfectly OK... go ahead and cook them (or cook with them!)

the fresher the better (except for when making meringues and for when having as boiled eggs as the shell doesn't want to peel off very easily).

not a daft question at all as i asked exactly the same one when i started out . i was told by one of those relatives that thinks they know it all that i had to wait for them to settle otherwise i would be ill but was soon corrected by the knowledgeable lot on here    ive had mine a year and still learn new stuff reading on here
