nasturtiums in my garden get covered in caterpillars - and then nothing else does.  So I am going to try them at the allotment this year as I said with the netting.  I'm planning on a lot of brassicas this year. And they are bright and pretty

i had the same problem last year, i put up some netting that i thought would stop the little blighters , no the caterpillers squeezed through the holes , turned around and laughed at me. this year i've aquired some debris netting ,so that should do the trick

Nasturtiums are lovely, but they always seem to be a magnet for blackfly - and I'm never convinced the blackfly stays on those plants, rather than infesting the garden!

I agree with you SarahB, they do attract blackfly, when they are infested I pull them up and bin the whole lot - flies as well.  They are a 'sacrificial plant' - just like virgins used to be !!  . The same thing happens happens when they get infested with the cabbage white caterpillars - off they jolly well go - the caterpillar heaven, which is away from my cabbages.
