Excitement about tomato seedlings!
« on: March 31, 2010, 17:21 »
I planted aubergines, chillis and tomatoes on 21st March.  This is my first time growing anything so I don't really know hoe long things take to germinate.  I was so excited to see my first tiny tomato seedlings last night.  I even took a photo!

Yayy!

Should I be expecting the chillis and aubergines soon too?

Im a little worried about my tomatoes as theyve been in two weeks but not a sign of germination

Chillis and aubergines take a little longer, so don't panic  :D

My toms were sown on the 16th march and didn't seen to be doing much so I covered with newspaper and they all popped their heads up. They are all now about 3" tall and are ready for potting on shortly. The Aubergines aren't doing too much yet though and they have newspaper on them, they were sown on the 24th so I still need to be patient I think!

Heh, good to know I'm not the only one!! :)

Would you expect all the seedlings to be up at the same time?  Not all my tomatoes are up.  Is that because they haven't germinated?  Or can they just be a bit slower?

I know you all like pictures so the attached picture is a couple of my toms which were planted from seed on the 1st march. (so 4 weeks old)

The tallest is currently 4.5" high, I'm not sure if this is normal growth but I'm happy with the way they are going.

Mine seemed to start off really slowly and then soon shot up after I repotted about 2 weeks in.

I also had different germination times, in fact the ones I sown on the 1st March range from nothing to 1" to 2" to 4" at the moment, they have all been on the same window sill so I am perplexed why they grow at different rate??

Nice seedlings UrbanG.

Am glad to read chillies take longer than tomatoes, all my tomatoes are now germinated (a couple didn't take from last year's seeds). Only two out of 12 chillies are up so far, was wondering if they were going to fail.
