Iv'e killed my plum tree
« on: March 23, 2010, 15:29 »
:( Hi everyone , I think I have killed my Victoria plum tree.

For the last few years my Victoria plum tree has suffered badly from brown rot.
In 2007 & 2008 I pruned out the diseased wood and burnt it, but to no avail.

Last August I decided to give it one last good haircut, to get it back into shape
and of a more managable size.
Unfortunately it now has silver leaf, on all branches that were pruned.

The main trunk is showing signs of a brown corkyness under the bark.
Which is so soft you can pick at it with your nails, so I think this is infected to.

Can this tree be removed and another Victoria plum planted in it's place?
There is nowhere else it can go.

Victoria is particularly susceptible to silver leaf -  I lost my tree a few years ago.

I would not replant a plum in the same spot, and definitely not a Victoria.

As I also do wood turning and have a 42" flatbed lathe, is the timber worth recovering?  Ill take it off you hands free......ill even coem and chop it down for you......

Went up the lottie on saturday, and low and behold there are buds on the plum tree.

They are all over the branches that I thought were diseased.
Have I got it wrong maybe. what do you think.
Shall I wait and see what happens or murder the plum
