Have I killed my plum
« on: May 21, 2011, 20:20 »
Hi,

Really gutted I hit the bottom of my new plum tree with the strimmer this afternoon, it took the bark off around half the trunk and a few cm in height.

Have I done enough damage to kill the tree?

Cheers,
Steve

Oops  >:(  Use "gardeners tar" to cover wound. Then tree will need some extra nutrition, water and luck.  Now i know, why previous owner of my place used thin metal mesh to warp mandarin trees trunks at bottom  :D

Fingers crossed it will be OK.
Our cat tried to remove all the bark from our Plum Tree, and it pulled through. (The cat had warnings read to her,,,, she ignored me!)
I then 'bodged' a tree protector by splitting 2 lemonade bottle and wrapping them around the trunk, worked for cat scratching prevention and coped with a strimmer too (plastic cable strimmer, not a bladed one)

Good luck
Very often quite lost- would be more lost if I could work out where I was!- But always find my way home.....

I cut the bottom off a large plastic flower pot, cut a slit up the side and placed it round the stem of my plum tree.   Cheers,   Tony.
I may be growing OLD, but I refuse to grow UP !
