Light and seed sowing....
« on: March 22, 2010, 18:36 »
I'm just about to sow my French marigolds to companion plant alongside tomatoes. They need 20 - 25°c to germinate and good light. However, both my heated props are full and the only option is a dark airing cupboard. Will they germinate in there okay? I can only manage about 19°c indoors  :(

Help!

Please don't bump topics like this.....it is very rude.

You will have to wait for someone who knows the answer to your question before you can expect a reply, and this may take a little while.

You should find they germinate just fine at room temperature anywhere you have space. I'm going start mine off on a desk in the spare room, then stick them out in the greenhouse as soon as they germinate so they have light.

Don't be too worried about following the packets really strictly for common annuals like marigolds. I sowed various flower seeds 4/5 days ago like this and they are already germinating despite many of the packets saying 25 degrees plus and 2-3 weeks to germinate.

Hi I sowed mine on a north facing windowsil indoors, in  cells with cling film over  on the 23rd March, I was astonished when on the 26th March most of them where showing their heads, so I took the cling film off and they are all doing well. Mandy.

Did you get them sowed? I did mine and they are just starting to show today, I'll stick them outside tomorrow :)
