chitting
« on: March 20, 2010, 16:05 »
Hi. Am new to this and just about to start chitting. I have bought earlies, second earlies and main crop potatoes. Do I chit them all at the same time or do the earlies first and then start the next lot? Or chit them all together and just harvest later for the later ones?
Sorry if this is a really stupid question.
Thanks. Lucia

I believe you chit them all at the same time - the different varieties just mature at different times. Not a stupid question at all as you are new to this.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

It's getting a bit late for chitting lucia; most folk will be planting their spuds in the next week or two if they haven't already done so which doesn't give you long with yours.

The good news is that you don't have to chit before you plant; not everyone believes it is necessary and they will still grow whether you do or not.  :)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!
