We had to something quick when my husband lifted the bin lid last week to find ratty looking at him inside  :tongue2:, he's not frighted of much but rats really freak him out!!

Well, we decided not to use our ratty compost and dug it out. W dug down juts a bit and filed it in level with some clods of earth/grass we'd dug away from our lawn to increase our growing area some more ::).  Then we laid some close mesh chicken wire we had used to support last years cukes over the clods and put the bin back on top.

We forced the mesh up around the sides of the bin and put another layer of it inside the bin with a bit of old carpet on it.

It's now composting again and so sign of ratty returning!  :)

Has anyone tried hot compost bins? Are they worth it?
