Handy freezer monitor

Just thinking about things to do before we go away in April and was thinking about the freezer (sad I know).

Anyway - I thought you might like to know of a simple freezer monitor I was shown in Bulgaria (they get a lot of power cuts).

Take a jam jar with lid and fill with water about half way. Stand upright in the freezer until the water is frozen. Remove the lid and put a penny or a pebble on top of the ice, put the lid back and stand upright somewhere in the freezer.

If at any time the freezer defrosts the penny will drop to the bottom of the jar, so if you check periodically and this has happened you know the food has been thawed due to loss of power.

Not so neccessary in the UK but useful if like us you are away for a long holiday.

Hi Argyllie, you are up early!. It is very handy especially if you have a bulk freezer in the garage or somewhere that you might not notice if it has lost power.

It is showing signs of light before 6 now.

I wish I could be up early to make the most of the days but the worst part of my MS is fatique. I sleep 12 hours - yes 12 hours a night so I never see two 6 o'clocks in the same day.

Hi Mosslane, Does an improvement in the weather and hopefully temperature help the MS at all or not really make a difference?

funnily enough the weather doesn't generally affect it unless it is really hot, which does make it worse. Any heat affects it, I am not allowed hot baths or hot showers only tepid which I hate. I think like most of us I feel better in the summer just because we can sit outside more. I am lucky that I don't get pain, things just don't work the way they should. I get frustrated but I have learned to live with it. I have a wonderful husband whom I couldn't cope without so that make life easier.

Hi Mosslane, I have 2 friends with MS, one emigrated to Gozo as she finds the heat helps her and the other (in Lincolnshire) finds it makes it worse so guess everybody MS is different .
