From propagators to heated mats
« on: March 07, 2010, 19:17 »
I was reading a magazine article earlier that said after your seeds have germinated in a propagator, move them to a heated mat to continue growing. Now I understand the theory of keeping the roots warm and the top growth cooler, but does anyone do this and find they have better/stronger plants than straight from the propagator onto the greenhouse bench? I've got a propagator, but no mat, and having seen the prices of them I'm not likely to be getting one any time soon - seems like a too much pampering but would love to hear your views. Thanks as always, Hey Jude.

These fancy gizmos are all well and good I suppose.

But IMO they dont do anything of benefit to warrant the large expense.  Seeds will grow in their own time, sometimes they need an added bonus to start yes, but to pamper them with mats seems excessive to me.

I just let mine get on with it, and they do OK.

Just my two pennorth  :D
