Depends how many you're sowing.

Trays for a lot, pots for a few, seed cells for even less.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I use pots for things I don't want a lot of and different sized modules for most else as you get less root disturbance.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

I tend to use pots as I get carried away with trays and always sow too much seed, but it is up to you and how many plants you want to grow.

Courgettes and cukes in pots.

The rest in modules...unless I can't fit them in - and they go in pinches in small pots.

Not forgetting Richy's paper pots for things that don't like being transplanted (e.g. sweetcorn), although they are also quite convenient for anything grown in relatively small numbers which can be grown to planting-out size without the need for potting-on (beans spring to mind.)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

Usually it's in small seed trays for stuff to go in the leccie propagator or modules in seed trays for the big hardy stuff...except leeks in a litter tray and courgettes, cues and squash straight into pots

I use anything from toilet rolls to yogurt pots.

Thanks everyone, don`t mean to appear thick but when you say moduels, do you mean the type of thing you get bedding plants in from the garden centre (a tray with about 12 sections in).  Regards Mandy.

That's right Mandy :) You can buy packs of them (to fit inside seed trays) for about a pound in Wilko ;)

This might be a help to.

I get given the clear plastic take a way containers, some are just over an inch high others two inchs.
The best thing about these is they come with a clear plastic lid.
so they act like a mini propagater.
you can also buy them new. check the net

for small batches of seed they are brilliant.

I might have another bash at chilli's in those and pop them in the airing cupboard. Do you make any drainage holes in them or just compost in, seed on top and then vermiculite? How do you water them as well? Spray gun or fine rose?

Thanks for any tips...
